Gate Access & License Plate Recognition (LPR) – Frequently Asked Questions

What is License Plate Recognition (LPR)?

License Plate Recognition is a feature of the gate access system that allows a vehicle’s license plate to be read by a camera when approaching the gate. If the plate is registered to a resident account, the gate can automatically open.

Is participation required?

No. Participation in the LPR feature is completely optional.

Residents may continue using the existing access methods such as gate clickers, keypad entry, or mobile access.

How do I enable the feature?

Residents who wish to use automatic plate entry may submit a request at this web form.

What happens if I do not register my plate?

Nothing changes.

You will continue using the gate the same way you do today.

Will the system still capture my plate if I opt out?

Gate cameras may capture vehicle images when entering the community.

However, license plates are only linked to a resident account if the resident voluntarily registers the plate.

If you do not register your plate, the system will not associate the image with your resident profile in Tap-2-Open and purge the record after a short period of time.

Does the system track where residents go?

No.

The system is used only to trigger the Venice Ave entry gate to open for that registered plate. It does not and can not track activity within the community.

Who can see license plate information?

Access to system information is restricted to:

  • Authorized system “CV community administrators”, which is a CV Board member or a designated agent within the community.

  • The gate system provider for operational support

The Association does not publicly share license plate information.

Does the Association sell or distribute license plate data?

No.

Neither the Association or the system provider sells, markets, or distributes resident license plate information.

What if law enforcement asks for information?

Any requests from law enforcement would be handled in accordance with applicable laws.

Should I register my plate if I have privacy concerns?

Residents with heightened privacy concerns may simply choose not to register their plate and continue using the normal gate access methods.

Does the system control access to the community amenities?

No.

The gate system controls vehicle entry into the community only. It does not nor can not regulate access to common areas such as ponds, lakes, or amenities.

What if I sell my home or need a license plate removed from the system?

Send an email to support@cvcommunity.us with that request and include your resident street number and the plate number you want removed. If you sell, your realtor will notify the CV Board of the closing date of your sale who will then remove your registered plates as well as all of your gate access privileges from the system on that date.

Can I register a guest license plate?

No. You should use the temporary key pad pin code option for visitors, guests, deliveries, and service providers.

Who can I contact with questions about the LPR system?
