What’s Going On?

The answer to that question is LOTS!

CERT: Hurricane season begins June 1, so I’ll be pulling our Community Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) together in May to be sure we’re ready to take action if necessary. What' is CERT, you ask? It’s a team of homeowner volunteers appointed to manage the Emergency Response Action Plan for our community. While the primary focus is related to major hurricanes, other events within the prevue of the Team are tornados, floods, and crime. What does CERT do? Prior to a hurricane, CERT Street Liaisons will work to ensure that areas of the community are secured: pool furniture tied down, water shut off at the clubhouse, gates opened, etc. After a hurricane, Street Liaisons walk their street to assess and report damage so the Board can arrange for repairs. What doesn’t CERT do? CERT does not help you secure your home. Every homeowner is responsible for putting up their shutters and moving potted plants, outdoor furniture, grills, etc. inside. If you are not a full time resident, it is your responsibility to have someone who can secure your home. As Jim mentioned in his weekly message on Saturday, our landscaping vendor, Mint Condition Services, will install shutters for CV residents. If you would like to get on their list to have your metal hurricane shutters installed (and removed) when/if a hurricane is approaching, you will have the opportunity to do so in the next few days. Pricing ranges $20 - $30 per window. To take them back off and return them to your garage storage is a flat $100 fee (total, not per window).

For all our sakes, I hope the CERT Team has nothing to do this hurricane season, but if storms are coming, we’ll be ready!
