What’s Going On?
Happy TUESDAY, everyone! Monday was such a busy work day that it blew right by; I may have to change my posting days to the weekend.
Sounding off: Earlier today I was accidentally copied on an email where a home owner made a derogatory comment to a vendor about our Board. When I read it, I told myself, “Brush it off. Rise above. They’re entitled to their opinion but it doesn’t matter.” But personally, it hurt my feelings. Now I’m not naive enough to think that all of you think we’re doing an awesome job all the time, nor am I looking for compliments. What I want everyone to understand is the level of commitment that the five of us have to this community. We’re all volunteers, most of whom work a full time job. Our Board has quite a bit of knowledge and experience, not to mention very hard working people. But we don’t have all the answers or all the ideas. We don’t know or remember everything; when someone asks a question or makes a request, often we have to consult our governing documents as well as the law. And the laws change so sometimes keeping up is hard. As a community, everyone should be inclined to help us - not put us down.
Constructive criticism, helpful feedback, and new ideas are always welcome! Derogatory comments are not. Anyone who isn’t willing to step up and be a part of the Board or a committee shouldn’t be trash talking those of us who do.
So if you’re unhappy with the job this Board has been doing or you think we’re not the brightest bulbs on the tree, STEP UP and run for one of the two open seats that needs to be filled in November. OR if you just want to work with an awesome, hard working, dedicated, fun group of people, run for one of the two open seats that needs to be filled in November.
Rules and Regs: Last week, a homeowner asked if I could review in one of my weekly posts our rules about Pets - Dogs and Cats (section 220). So here’s goes!
A. A maximum of three dogs or three cats per home is permitted; pets can also be any combination of dogs and cats. (Other than breeds prohibited by the Association's insurance policy, applicable governmental agency, or other breeds which in the reasonable determination of the board of directors are determined to be a threat to the safety of the occupants of the property).
B. The Board of Directors shall specifically have the power to either permit additional domestic dogs or cats to be kept by an owner if, in the determination of the board, such pets shall not cause or be deemed by the Board of Directors to constitute a nuisance to any other owner.
C. Owners and renters must provide proof of liability insurance for their dogs.
D. Pets must always be leashed and under direct physical control when they are not in a fully enclosed patio/yard.
E. Owners and guests are required to immediately clean up, remove and properly dispose of their pet’s solid excrement regardless of the location within the community. This is both a sanitary and aesthetic concern for owners, neighbors and guests.
F. Pets cannot be left outside, including within a screen patio area or pool screen enclosure, to bark or be an annoyance to the neighbors.
G. DO NOT FEED BIRDS, ALLIGATORS OR ANY WILDLIFE.
Couple comments here: I know of several folks who walk their very well-behaved dogs without a leash. For the safety of the dog, I would ask that you reconsider this and abide by our rules. On several occasions, Toby and I have encountered coyotes when we’ve been out walking and if he weren’t on a leash, he would’ve chased right after them and been gone. I don’t care how well your dog listens, their instincts will kick in and you will lose your beloved furry friend.
Please, please pick up after your dog! Not only for sanitary reasons but also as a courtesy to your neighbors. Doesn’t matter if it’s within the confines of your yard or elsewhere on the property.
And finally, I’m not sure how alligators are considered pets! LOL!
